An Interview with Georgia Astle: Women Making Freeride History at Red Bull Rampage

On a scorching day in Santiago, Chile, Georgia Astle takes a break from the heat competing in Todo De Nada, reflecting on a momentous achievement in her career. Just months ago, she secured second place at the first-ever women’s Red Bull Rampage event in October 2024, making history in the world of freeride mountain biking. In this exclusive interview, she shares her journey, the challenges she faced, and the thrill of competing in one of the most demanding courses in the sport.

“Then, I got a text from Todd Barber…My heart dropped. I just knew it meant I was in. It was a surreal moment—one minute, I was an alternate; the next, I was preparing to ride one of the most legendary courses in freeride history.” – Georgia Astle

A Historic Moment in Women’s Freeride

Liz Donahey: Georgia, first of all, congratulations on your incredible second-place finish at the first-ever women’s Red Bull Rampage! How did it feel to be part of such a groundbreaking event?

Georgia Astle: It was unreal. At the start of the year, we didn’t even think a women’s Rampage was going to happen. When Red Bull announced the event in June, everything changed overnight. I went from watching my friends compete to suddenly being on the alternates list.

Then, after some last-minute shuffling, I got the call—I was in. It was a whirlwind, and I’m still decompressing from the intensity of it all. The whole week of Rampage was absolutely insane.
