The trails of Fort Ord National Monument are about to come alive once again as The 3CX Summer MTB Series Returns to Fort Ord with The BLM Blaze XC on May 31 Brings the Signature 3CX Vibe Back to Fort Ord — kicking off another exciting season of fast racing, supportive community, and unforgettable trail experiences.
For nearly three decades, the 3CX and CCCX race series have built a reputation as one of Northern California’s most welcoming and respected mountain bike race communities. Hosted by Repack Racing, the series continues to attract everyone from first-time racers to elite cross-country athletes looking to test themselves on some of the best trails in the region.
The BLM Blaze XC delivers exactly what riders love about Fort Ord: smooth singletrack, fast corners, rolling terrain, open hardpack, and flow for miles. Riders can expect a multi-lap cross-country format designed to keep racers moving, smiling, and fully immersed in the rhythm of the trail.
What makes the 3CX Summer Series especially unique is its atmosphere. While the racing is competitive, the overall energy feels inclusive, approachable, and community-driven. Families line the venue cheering riders on, beginner racers find encouragement from experienced athletes, and longtime local riders reconnect with friends who have been part of the Fort Ord scene for years.
The series welcomes all levels and age groups, with categories ranging from youth riders and beginners to Sport, Expert, and Open/Pro divisions for both women and men.
This year’s series also includes an important update: the 3CX Summer MTB Series is now USA Cycling sanctioned. Organizers are helping offset the added cost by offering discounted first-year and U19 licenses, helping make racing more accessible to newer riders and junior athletes entering the sport. Beyond the competition itself, events like the BLM Blaze XC continue to play a major role in strengthening the mountain bike community throughout California. Organizations like Monterey Off Road Cycling Association (MORCA) help support trail advocacy and stewardship efforts that keep riding opportunities thriving throughout the region.
For many riders, races like these become much more than a competition. They become milestones — a first race, a comeback after injury, a family tradition, or the moment someone realizes they’re capable of more than they imagined.
And that’s the magic of grassroots mountain bike racing.
