When the dust settled on the fire roads of northern Wisconsin, one name stood out above the rest: Melisa Rollins. With a perfectly timed attack and relentless determination, Rollins powered her way to a commanding solo win at the Life Time Chequamegon Mountain Bike Festival, her second career victory at this iconic race.

The decisive moment came shortly after mile 23 on the infamous Firetower climb, where Rollins surged away from a lead group of four. Instead of waiting, she doubled down on her effort, pressing forward and never letting the gap close. By the time she reached the finish in Cable, she had built a massive 4:32 lead, a margin that spoke as much to her strength as to her confidence in riding her own race.
“I tried to stay patient early,” Rollins said afterward. “The Firetower climb really blew the race apart. I got a little gap but was caught, then went again — and that time I knew I had the momentum. From there, I just held it all the way to the finish.”
Behind her, the battle for the podium came down to a sprint between Sofía Gómez Villafañe, Alexis Skarda, and Cecily Decker — but the spotlight remained on Rollins, who crossed the line alone, arms raised, reclaiming the Chequamegon title she first won in 2021.
The Bigger Picture
This win wasn’t just about Chequamegon — it shook up the entire Life Time Grand Prix standings. Rollins now sits just 10 points behind Villafañe and Decker at the top of the leaderboard, setting up an electrifying finale in Arkansas next month. With Little Sugar and Big Sugar still to come, she’s positioned herself as a serious threat for the overall crown.
“I’ve been targeting this race since Leadville,” Rollins admitted. “I like to take things one race at a time, but I know I want to show up strong in Arkansas. The fight for the overall is going to be close, and I’m excited to be part of it.”
Why This Matters
Rollins’ ride at Chequamegon was more than just a victory, it was a statement. Against some of the strongest women in North American endurance racing, she proved that patience, timing, and sheer grit can turn opportunity into dominance. With her confidence high and momentum on her side, all eyes will be on her as the Grand Prix heads into its final showdown.
