Where California’s Coastline Becomes a Classroom for Adventure

There are places that change the pace of our lives. Places where the noise fades, the horizon expands, and the simple act of riding a bicycle becomes something much larger. Wilder Ranch is one of those places.

On July 18, the MTB Girls Ride Club invites riders to experience one of California’s most extraordinary mountain biking destinations during the Wilder Ranch Coed Clinic. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Santa Cruz coastline, this unique event blends technical skills training, mindset coaching, and the restorative power of the outdoors into a day designed to help riders grow both on and off the bike. More than a clinic, this is an invitation to explore one of California’s most treasured landscapes while discovering new strengths within yourself.

A Landscape That Has Inspired Generations

The Story of Wilder Ranch

The trails at Wilder Ranch tell a story that stretches back thousands of years.

Long before it became a California State Park, this land was home to the Indigenous Ohlone people, who lived in harmony with the coastal environment. Later, the property became part of the Mission Santa Cruz grazing lands before evolving into one of California’s most successful dairy ranches under the Wilder family.

Today, the historic barns, Victorian farmhouse, and preserved ranch buildings stand as reminders of the people who shaped this remarkable landscape. Riders travel through rolling coastal terraces, quiet oak groves, and open grasslands while overlooking the Pacific Ocean, experiencing a place where history and nature exist in perfect balance.

There is a quiet wisdom to Wilder Ranch. It encourages exploration, reflection, and an appreciation for the journey itself.

Great Riding Begins with Great Foundations

Skills Create Confidence

One of the defining qualities of the MTB Girls Ride Club is the belief that every rider, regardless of experience, deserves great coaching and an encouraging community. Our clinics are designed to help riders build practical skills while enjoying some of California’s most inspiring trails. (MTB Girls Magazine)

Kim Meredith brings years of coaching experience to the Wilder Ranch Coed Clinic, working with riders from beginner through advanced levels to develop the techniques that make mountain biking safer, smoother, and more enjoyable.

From body position and braking to cornering, climbing, descending, and trail awareness, Kim’s instruction focuses on practical skills that riders can immediately apply. Her coaching philosophy meets participants where they are, creating an environment where progress feels achievable and confidence grows naturally.

The goal isn’t simply to ride harder. It’s to ride with greater skill, confidence, and joy.

The Most Important Trail Is the One Between Your Ears

Mountain Biking as a Mindset

Every mountain biker eventually discovers that the biggest obstacles are rarely found on the trail.

Fear. Self-doubt. Hesitation. Frustration.

Learning to work through those challenges can be just as important as mastering a technical descent.

Drawing from the philosophy behind her book, 23 Principles of Mountain Biking, Liz Donahey introduces riders to the mental side of the sport. Her approach explores how mountain biking teaches resilience, patience, courage, and trust. Riders learn that challenges are opportunities for growth and that confidence is built through consistency, curiosity, and a willingness to keep trying.

The MTB Girls Ride Club philosophy extends well beyond technical riding. As you’ll discover through our rides and clinics, the lessons learned on the trail often carry into everyday life, helping riders become stronger, healthier, and more resilient versions of themselves. Together, Kim’s technical instruction and Liz’s mindset coaching create an experience that develops both the rider and the person.

The Simple Joy of Playing in the Dirt

Adventure Has a Way of Resetting the Soul

There is something deeply satisfying about spending a day outdoors on a mountain bike.

The rhythm of pedaling. The scent of coastal sage. The sound of the ocean carried on the breeze. The satisfaction of navigating a trail that once seemed intimidating.

Wilder Ranch offers all of this and more.

Its spectacular network of trails invites riders to slow down, appreciate the landscape, and reconnect with the simple pleasures of movement and exploration. The experience reminds us that adventure doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes the best days are spent playing in the dirt with good people in beautiful places.

What the Trail Teaches Us

Confidence Is Built One Turn at a Time

The beauty of Wilder Ranch lies not only in its scenery. In addition, it lies in the lessons it quietly offers.

Every climb asks for patience, Every descent rewards commitment, Every obstacle invites us to trust ourselves a little more

Mountain biking becomes a practice in resilience and self-discovery, teaching us that setbacks are temporary and that progress often arrives one small step at a time.

In the peaceful setting of Wilder Ranch, riders are given the space to challenge themselves. At the same time, they can celebrate every victory along the way.

Adventure Is Better Together

Finding Your Riding Community

The MTB Girls Ride Club was created around a simple idea: mountain biking should be welcoming, supportive, and shared.
