Ride the Legendary Soquel Demo Forest with MTB Girls Ride Club

There are mountain bike destinations that live up to the hype, and then there’s Soquel Demonstration State Forest, affectionately known by riders as simply “Demo.” This is the place riders travel from across California and beyond to experience some of the most iconic singletrack in the country. On Saturday, MTB Girls Ride Club invites you to experience Demo alongside coaches Liz Donahey and Kim Meredith during our Coed Ride Club Clinic. Whether you’ve always wanted to ride these legendary trails or you’re looking to build confidence with experienced coaches and an incredible community, this ride promises to be one you’ll remember.

A Forest Built for the Future

Soquel Demonstration State Forest isn’t just a recreation area. It’s a 2,681-acre working forest managed by CAL FIRE where sustainable forestry, watershed protection, wildlife habitat, education, research, and outdoor recreation all exist together. Although the property was heavily logged throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s, California acquired the land in 1988 and officially established the Demonstration State Forest in 1990 to showcase modern, sustainable forest management. Today, it serves as one of the premier mountain biking destinations in the United States while continuing its forestry mission. MTB Girls Ride Club Coed Clinic at Soquel Demo Forest July 18 Santa Cruz CA.

Towering coast redwoods, Douglas fir forests, flowing creeks, and nearly 2,000 feet of elevation create an unforgettable setting for every ride.

The Famous Santa Cruz Flow Trail

The crown jewel of Demo is undoubtedly the Flow Trail.

Completed in 2015 through a partnership between CAL FIRE and the Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship, the trail took years of planning, over 6,000 volunteer hours, and more than $220,000 in fundraising to build. The result is a masterpiece of sustainable trail design featuring berm after berm, perfectly shaped rollers, and nearly four miles of descending singletrack through the redwoods.

Is it really the longest flow trail in the United States?

The answer is not officially.

While you’ll often hear riders refer to Flow Trail as the longest flow trail in the United States, I couldn’t confirm that claim from authoritative sources. What is well documented is that the Santa Cruz Flow Trail is approximately four miles long and is widely recognized as one of the longest purpose-built flow trails in the country and certainly among the most iconic. Organizations that built and manage the trail consistently describe it as a flagship example of modern flow trail design, but they do not officially claim it is the single longest in the nation.

So for editorial accuracy, it’s better to say:

The Santa Cruz Flow Trail is one of the longest and most iconic purpose-built flow trails in the United States.

More Than Just Flow

Our ride won’t just be about descending.

We’ll climb through beautiful redwood forests before dropping into the trails that have made Demo legendary. Riders will experience flowing corners, natural terrain, technical features, incredible scenery, and the supportive atmosphere that MTB Girls Ride Club is known for.

Along the way you’ll learn:

  • Better cornering technique
  • Body positioning
  • Braking control
  • Line choice
  • Trail confidence
  • How to carry momentum through flow trails

Most importantly, you’ll experience Demo with a fun, welcoming group that loves helping riders progress.
